Cloud Native Summit Munich 2026 brought engineers, open-source contributors, and technology enthusiasts together for two days of technical exchange and community connections. From Kubernetes and Platform Engineering to AI infrastructure and digital sovereignty, the event offered plenty of perspectives on where cloud-native engineering is heading.

As a returning sponsor, ape factory was pleased to support the summit again this year. Colleagues from our team attended onsite, joining conversations with practitioners and reconnecting with the community around technologies we work with every day.

Cloud Native Continues to Evolve

The cloud-native ecosystem is no longer focused exclusively on container orchestration. Kubernetes remains an important foundation, but the discussions around it increasingly include AI workloads, developer platforms, operational control, and the challenge of managing complex systems sustainably.

Three themes from the conference program are particularly relevant to the work we do at ape factory.

AI Infrastructure: From Experiments to Production

AI Engineering was a visible part of this year’s program, reflecting the shift from prototypes and demonstrations toward applications that need to run reliably in production.

That shift brings familiar infrastructure questions into sharper focus: How do teams manage resources and costs? How do they secure workloads and data? How do they observe application behavior, diagnose failures, and operate systems over time?

The tools may be evolving, but the underlying engineering disciplines remain essential. Reliable AI systems need reliable platforms.

Platform Engineering: Making Complexity Manageable

Platform Engineering continues to be about more than automating infrastructure provisioning. The real challenge is to provide reusable, well-governed capabilities that help development teams deliver software without taking on unnecessary operational complexity.

GitOps, declarative infrastructure, and platform APIs are all part of that conversation. They enable organizations to standardize how services are delivered while preserving flexibility for teams with different requirements.

For us, the most interesting question is how to turn these ideas into platforms that remain practical to operate long after their initial rollout.

Noisebusters and the signal in the dark - identify malicious alerts locally and real-time

Noisebusters and the signal in the dark - identify malicious alerts locally and real-time

Dr. Constanze Roedig

Detect complex Kubernetes attacks faster, with fewer alerts and less data to analyze. This talk presents a fully open-source approach to sovereign security monitoring that correlates Indicators of Compromise (IoCs) directly on cluster nodes. Developed through research for the Austrian Armed Forces, the solution reconstructs complete attack chains, even when individual steps go undetected, while reducing the volume of security data exported to central systems.

Max Körbächer — Liquid Reply

How can Europe strengthen its digital sovereignty through open-source collaboration?

This presentation examines the role of open-source ecosystems, enterprise participation, and shared infrastructure in building technological independence.

kro: From Helm Charts to Kubernetes APIs-Rethinking metal-control-plane Deployment

Benjamin Ritter & Simon Mayer

Move beyond Helm templating with Kubernetes-native, continuously reconciled application deployments. This talk explores a real-world evaluation of kro (Kube Resource Orchestrator) at metal-stack.io, demonstrating how ResourceGraphDefinitions, resource chaining, and CEL expressions can simplify complex platform deployments. Through a practical migration example, it highlights the benefits, limitations, and trade-offs of adopting kro as an alternative to Helm.

Beyond the Conference Sessions

Presentations are only part of what makes an event like Cloud Native Summit Munich valuable. Conversations between sessions give engineers an opportunity to compare experiences, discuss implementation challenges, and learn how other teams approach similar problems.

For our colleagues onsite, the summit was a chance to exchange perspectives with other practitioners and spend time with a community built around collaboration and shared technical knowledge.

A Small ape factory Tradition

Over the years, preparing for the Munich summit has also meant preparing something else: our custom conference T-shirts.

Each edition gets its own design. It’s a small tradition that adds a personal touch to our participation and reflects the enthusiasm we have for being part of the cloud-native community.

Supporting the Community Since 2023

Our involvement with the Munich cloud-native community dates back to Kubernetes Community Days Munich in 2023. Since then, we’ve continued supporting the event as it has evolved.

For ape factory, sponsorship is about contributing to an ecosystem where engineers share knowledge openly, challenge assumptions, and help one another build better systems. Events like this make those exchanges possible, in person and beyond.

Looking Ahead

Cloud Native Summit Munich 2026 was another reminder that the technologies we work with are constantly evolving—and that exchanging practical experience matters just as much as exploring new ideas.

Thank you to the organizers, speakers, volunteers, sponsors, and everyone who contributed to the event. We look forward to continuing the conversations and seeing the community again at the next edition.
